Infertility Book Review
An excellent reference book for anyone experiencing primary or secondary infertility is by Anna Furse. Anna herself has been through the ordeal of infertility and took part in a 1995 BBC documentary whilst she under went DNA Tests and IVF treatments in the UK, which resulted in a much welcomed baby girl.
Anna is not new to writing or teaching. Her career has included being a theatre director, award - winning playwright and Senior lecturer in performing arts at the university of north London.
The book has been printed Thorson, an imprint of Harper Collins Publishers. First published in 1997 ti was reprinted in 2001. The ISBN number listed is 0007119542 for anyone that would like to find a copy. The book has rather a long title but it does help to know what you will be reading about even before you open the front cover. The title is “Your essential infertility companion - a user’s guide to tests, technology and therapies”.
The contents do as the title suggests unlike some books. Not only does this book explain complex terms and procedures in simple everyday language it also prepares both women and men for what they can expect, even the emotional swings they might experience and even where to go for treatment. There are lists of clinics detailing just what treatments and services they provide.
The foreward by Doctor Ruth Curson is a great reference for the author a lay person in the medical field who has taken on the large task of explaining and supporting those undergoing this new technological procedures. Doctor Ruth describes Anna’s book as being well researched, up to date and easy to read.
